There are more than 75 jobs in the film industry - from high-profile roles like director to gaffer and key grip. Foreign distribution is a growing area of revenue for the six major film companies. With the advent of the new computer-based technologies, "cable" markets and direct digital-delivery of motion pictures via satellite and the Internet are expected to increase dramatically over the next few years, creating an accelerated demand for original and re-run motion pictures. Digital technology is lowering production costs for some small-budget films, enabling more independent film studios to succeed. Employment in the film industry is concentrated in southern California, New York, and Vancouver, though studios and production facilities are located throughout North America. The majoritys of jobs in the film industry are with companies with more than 50 employees, despite the fact that most studios employ fewer than 5.
